Bout of Books 17: Update Three

Well, the Bout of Books 17 Read-a-Thon is officially over. Needless to say I found myself in quite a reading slump after finishing Déjà Dead that I didn’t end up reading much of anything else. Regardless, I should update you on what I did manage to do, so without further adieu…

Déjà Dead by Kathy Reichs 416/416 pages

News of the World by Paulette Jiles 119/224 pages

This book is a very slow burn for me. I am quite enjoying it, but I also don’t feel compelled to read it all in one sitting. I have a feeling I will be finishing this book this week, but to choose it as a read-a-thin book was probably a mistake.

Omari and the People by Stephen Whitfield 8h1m/11h17m

I am so close to being finished this book! I’m so mad at myself for not plowing through the rest of this before the read up was over, however, I really did give myself a reading hangover with Kathy Reichs. Maybe I should have finished Déjà Dead after the two shorter books.

Overall, I really did enjoy participating in the Bout of Books 17 Read-a-Thon and hope to do it the next time it comes around.

Bout of Books 17: Update Two

Day three of the Bout of Books 17 Read-a-Thon is almost over, so that means it’s time for another update on my progress.

Déjà Dead by Kathy Reichs 416/416 pages

I finished this book yesterday, and wow so many feelings. Look out for my review coming soon!

News of the World by Paulette Jiles 30/224 pages

10 more pages read, I can already tell that this is going to be a slow read for me. Hopefully by Friday I’ll have more to say on this one.

Omari and the People by Stephen Whitfield 4h47m/11h17m

I desperately wanted to be more into this listen, but a really bad headache and a Kathy Reichs book hangover made me just not want to listen to anything. Again, by Friday I hope to be almost done or done this book.

With that said, I still have a lot of reading to get done, so if I hope to be back on Friday with another update I best get back to the books.

Bout of Book 17: Update One

The first day of the Bout of Books 17 Read-a-Thon is almost at an end and I figured I would take the time to update you on my progress.

Déjà Dead by Kathy Reichs 240/416 pages

I’ve read roughly half of this novel, and while I’m really enjoying it, I feel like I might have enjoyed it more if I hadn’t watched the t.v. show Bones first. Temperance Brennan in the novel is different in many ways, first and formost being the fact that she’s okay with jumping to conclusions. If you’re a fan of the show you know Brennan’s number one rule is to not make conclusions that can’t be backed up by the evidence. Another difference between show Brennan and novel Brennan is that she’s an alcoholic in the novel. This adds a complex angle to novel Brennan that seems to work well with the character being presented. In all, I’m enjoying it and hoping to be done with this novel no later than Wednesday.

News of the World by Paulette Jiles 30/224 pages

I only got through the first 30 pages so nothing major to report here.

Omari and the People by Stephen Whitfield 2hrs52m/11h17m

This novel wasn’t featured on my original Bout of Books TBR, but I am a host for the Omari and the People audiobook blog tour and figured I should start this as soon as possible so that my review is good to go earlier than needed. So far I’m enjoying both the story and the narrator, but I don’t want to say too much because I want to have something to write about in my review!

That’s all for now, make sure to come back on Wednesday where I will hopefully have another update.
