Today I am launching a new series here on The Paperback Pilgrim, monthly wrap ups. I have loved reading other bloggers, specifically Alana at The Bookish Chick who’s layout I emulated, wrap ups over the last several months and figured the first month of a new year was the perfect time to try my hand at it. January was a great reading month for me, and I was able to finish 10 books. Interested to see what I was able to read for the month of January, keep on reading!

What I read this month
Reviews for January 2019
Amber & Dusk (Amber & Dusk #1) by Lyra Selene
Becoming by Michelle Obama
The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiresten White
The Draughtsman by Robert Lautner
Evermore (Everless #2) by Sara Holland
The Ghost Map by Steven Johnson
Girls of Paper and Fire (Girls of Paper and Fire #1) by Natasha Ngan
The Heart Forger (The Bone Witch #2) by Rin Chupeco
Onyx & Ivory (Rime Chronicles #1) Mindee Arnett
The Smoke Thieves (The Smoke Thieves #1) by Sally Green
Favourite Read of the Month
Onyx & Ivory (Rime Chronicles #1) by Mindee Arnett came to me at a time where I needed a great YA fantasy read. While I didn’t rate it five stars, I see the potential for its sequel, Shadow & Flame, to blow me out of the water.
Least Favourite Read of the Month
I really did want to love Girls of Paper and Fire (Girls of Paper and Fire #1) by Natasta Ngan. While I agree with many reviewers that this book is an excellent example of the need for representation in YA fantasy, given that it is an own voices novel featuring a f/f romance, I just found myself not connecting with the world or characters to care about the explosive battles or tragic deaths littered through its pages.
